7 morning rituals that will change your whole day
Harness the cosmic life force energy of the morning and watch everything shift!
Morning rituals are the grounding anchor that we carry with us throughout our whole day. Just as the sun rises every morning and the universe wakes up, so does our consciousness go through continuous cycles and the early morning is where we can purify and reset the whole cycle towards a new trajectory.
This is why in Vedic Sanatan Dharma, morning Puja and rituals are essential in our daily life; to offer back to our source, receive cosmic energy and purify ourselves as well.
Here are 5 simple morning rituals you can do to uplift your life and heal your life experience!
1. Simply breathing
This is the most essential one - because our breath connects our mind, body and spirit. Our breath connects all the different dimensions of our being and brings us into the space of awareness through which we can connect to pure source energy.
The minute you wake up, don’t reach for your phone. Just spend 5 MINUTES sitting straight and breathing in deeply from your stomach and releasing. Doing this will stabilise your energy system, clear away the programs from the previous day/night and give you that much needed pause for clarity and peace.
2. Offering gratitude
Gratitude is a deep purification mechanism. It helps us purify our ego and realign ourselves into a harmonious state through which we can manifest our life experiences. Simple standing outside and offering gratitude to the sun, deities, ancestors, is a beautiful practice. You can also write down or speak out loud 5 things you are grateful for when you start your day which will put you in an uplifted state of mind.
3. Remembering Ganapati / Ganesh Bhagwaan
Shree Ganesh is the remover of obstacles and every single auspicious activity in Sanatan Dharma starts with Ganapati. Remembering Shree Ganesh before any spiritual practice, before starting your day or work will bring in spiritual protection and stabilise your Root Chakra.
Two simple Sanskrit mantras you can chant include:
Aum Gam Ganapataye Namah
ॐ गं गणपतये नमः
Vakratunda Mahakaya
Surya Koti Samaprabha
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva
Sarva Kaarye Shusarvadaa
वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ॥
The pronunciation of mantras is important as is the bhav. Here is a YouTube Bhakti sangeet music video. Here is the second mantra by Shankar Mahadevan.
Here the second mantra by Pandit Jasraj here. and his Ganesh Stuti here.
4. Press your acupressure points
The morning time is when our system is most receptive to healing and the healing energy in the universe is most strong! Especially during Bhrama Muharat (3-5am).
We contain all our nerve endings in our hands and feet which connect to all the different organs and energy channels of the body. Everything is connected.
If you don’t know specific acupressure points, simply press your own hands (and/or feet) and feel. For example, the space between the third and fourth finger on the inside of your hand. Massage your face. The points at the top of your nose connecting your eyebrows - notice where the area hurts and press gently here as this releases toxins and clears away accumulated tension and stress.
Explore for yourself with your intuition.
5. Offer water to the sun
The sun is our source of life and connecting to the sun in the morning fills us with power and strength in the deep subconscious levels of our being. When our sun is happy, we have the strength to carry out our work and also purifies our inner spirit.
Simply take a copper lota (Kalash), fill with water, raise it above your head and offer it to the sun. You can chant Aum Suryah Namah as you do this.
Another way is to simply take water into your two palms and then offer it, it can be offered from your balcony, you can stand on the grass, just make sure you can see the sun and offer it as such.
6. GO OUTSIDE IN THE FRESH AIR
Super huge! Just standing outside on your balcony, terrace or going somewhere with a bit of nature is totally life-changing because the energies of the morning are very powerful for healing and this interacts and realigns your whole energy system too. You’ll notice that the air is cooler, the world is quiet in the early morning just before and around sunrise. Even if it’s just for five minutes, stand outside and breathe deeply.
7. Place your hands on your heart and breath
One of the biggest things we need to feel is safety, to feel our own love. To pour back into ourselves which is what we do on a cosmic level with ancient rituals.
Put your hands on your heart, left over right and simply breathe into your heart chakra. If you can visualise a pink or green light filling up the space as your breathe in, healing everything in this region. You can also chant the heart chakra Beej Mantra which is YAM. Refer to YouTube to understand how to do this (with discretion), and I’ll make separate videos on healing our heart chakra as well.
Musical instruments also open our our heart chakra, and each classical instruments is related to different chakras - as are traditional Raga’s purification of the whole chakra system through sound, which is the nature of the universe. Also each chakra and also instruments are connected to different elements.
For example, you can listen to traditional flute music which heals and opens the heart chakra. Here is Pandit Ronu Majmudar playing classical Indian flute.
