Here's how you can get started on your digital nomad journey
A quick guide to support your location independent ambitions
What is a digital nomad? A digital nomad is essentially someone who works from their laptop, has autonomy over their location and financial freedom. There are many different types of digital nomads — those who are location independent and survive on a small budget, as well as digital nomads who are 6 figure entrepreneurs. The possibilities and scope for you designing a lifestyle that supports your freedom, happiness and purpose are immense - but the most common question that arises is, where on earth do I start?
You may be sick of hearing the words positive thinking and mindset, but that truly is the first step. Actually doing this work (which may seem unbearable at first) is what makes things RAPIDLY SHIFT FOR THE BETTER in your life, be it your finances or job opportunities. Manifestation is nothing new, ancient Vedic yogis understood the deep science of consciousness and these traditional systems are even more vast than we can imagine. But for the purposes of the immediate future, let’s dive into just a FEW KEY considerations to help you get started
1. Think about WHY you want to be a digital nomad
The first thing you want to do before rushing into the practical planning of achieving your lifestyle of freedom is to really give a deep thought to WHY and clearly pinpoint your vision. There will be more focused exercises on clarifying your vision and life purpose in my full digital nomad workbook releasing in September.
Get a pen and a paper, and write down the deep core reasons why you want to be a digital nomad. Is it because you want to travel? Because you want to be an entrepreneur and monetise in a way that supports your life purpose and soul callings? Is it so that you have more time for spiritual pursuits and spending time with family? Is it because you want autonomy and to be your own boss? Write down your core reasons first. And then in a separate paragraph, clearly describe your vision. This is the place you can really expand your imagination - what would your ideal digital nomad lifestyle look like? What would you be doing? Selling products? Empowering indigenous and local produce? What would be your ideal monthly income? Where would you like to live? Give yourself the SPACE to really explore your visions and the callings inside your heart. Finally, take some time to meditate and observe your breathing to derive better insights from your inner awareness rather than intellect.
2. Analyse your monetisable skill-sets
Now let’s take a look at YOUR individual strengths and how you can monetise. We are still just exploring possibilities at this stage, once you fix an idea this will involve business and brand planning. What are your core skills? Write out a list - what products could you sell that serve a market gap? What knowledge or skills do you possess to uplift others and give them value? Are you good at creative activities or are you more inclined to numerical or technical skills? What would it take to be a good content writer or virtual assistant?
After analysing your skill-sets and thinking about options, research some of the existing digital nomad occupations and see how other people are branding themselves. They could be healers, graphic designers, product vendors, organic farmers, IT wizards or content creators. There is a lot more to do in this stage but this is just a quick start guide to help you organise your thoughts and start exploring the ways that could work for you.
3. Write an actual actionable plan
Want to get started now? Just start somewhere. You don’t need to know step 10 already, just think about step 1. Already a graphic designer? Already have a business idea? Great, write down the next step. Make the Instagram page, make the podcast, make the video. Connect with people that could value your product or could help you get a head start. There are lost of networks and conscious communities.
And if you don’t have a clear vision at this stage just make plans for passive income sources. The easiest avenue is e-commerce, and even easier is online teaching. Check out the specifications for online English teaching, join Facebook groups and make it a point to find out how to get students (I myself was an online economics tutor for the first few years of my journey after which it was mostly content creation and digital marketing).
See - if you have access to the internet, you can already make an income now. I promise you that where there is a will there is way and this is why practices like visualisation are so essential to help you get there. Key spiritual practices to accelerate your journey will be included in my full guidebook and online workshops to help you dissolve blocks and actively manifest your life. You need to believe in yourself, and ultimately, surrender your trust into the divine. Your source, your stillness is your power. Nothing in this material world can be achieved without spiritual efforts of some kind, because this is the creative life force energy which exists within you.
