Yes! It is the first new moon of the year, in Western astrology in the sign of Capricorn which is an earth sign, all about grounding, practical goals and the energy of turning your dreams into reality.
In the Vedic calendar, we call it as ‘Amavasya’ and each new moon is most significant for one thing and that is clearing ancestral trauma.
Whilst I’ve touched upon the manifestation aspect of the new moon several times, I want to focus here on the second aspect.
Yes, new moons are a great time for manifestation and intention setting, but they are ALSO very significant for clearing trauma. Let’s talk about it here.
Well, if you think about it, the new moon is the dark moon.
During a dark moon, negative energies in the universe are heightened. The veil between this realm and the spirit realm is also thinner.
And one thing to note is that the ancestors are most active in Amavasya (new moon). The exact day of the new moon will depend on something called a ‘Tithi’ as the Vedic calendar is cyclical unlike the modern Gregorian one.
What does this mean and how is it relevant to your life? Why bother thinking about ancestral trauma in the first place?
Our ancestors live inside us. When we take birth into this realm, we come with certain past karmas, we come with our psychological tendencies and patterns which are often linked to astrology. Just as ancestral trauma is passed down through generations, ancestral healing is also passed down.
Clearing ancestral trauma isn’t really complicated. It’s about honouring your ancestors and appeasing them at certain astrological times, which not only brings added blessings into your life but actively clears away traumatic residue.
Why? Because the world we live in is karma. Karma is recycled until it is transmuted and resolved.
That’s why the Hindu Rishis gave us so much depth and systematic knowledge on how to do that, various rituals and the cosmology of the universe.
Ancestral trauma can show up in your life as struggles with money, struggles with self confidence, feeling disconnected to your spiritual power, attracting toxic people and further. But it can also be healed.
There are many, many ways to heal ancestral trauma. It’s one of the deepest topics out there. But let me make it suuuuuper simple.
Just one thing - feed cows on a new moon. They must be indigenous cows ideally (Jersey cows are not). The Gaumata contains all 33 Koti Devatas or the energies which govern the universe inside her. That’s why she is worshipped as she is also the giver of abundance and manifestation of unconditional love.
When you feed cows on a new moon, either by donating to an authentic Gaushala or even if your hand, you are gaining what we call as ‘Punya’ or positive karma and this reaches your ancestors directly on a new moon.
If you seek a good source, I recommend Dakshin Vrindavan Gaushala to support over here! Always put a 1 at the end of your daan (donation) never a 0.
