Sharad Purnima: the most abundant full moon of the year!
Essentials for manifestation and Hindu tradition.
Today evening starts the auspicious tithi of Sharad Purnima which is one of the most significant full moons of the year, especially for Goddess Lakshmi.
It occurs during the month of Ashwin in the Vedic calendar, just after the completion of Navratri which is 9 nights of Shakti workshop. Celebrated with great splendour across the length and breadth of Bharatvarsh in manifold ways!
This full moon is the most powerful to receive the blessings of Maa Lakshmi, invite health and abundance into your life and manifest your desires!
In particular it is the only full moon where all the 16 kalas of the moon are in full form and the moon rays shower ‘Amrit’ or nectar on earth. Which is why this is SO powerful for charging your crystals, healing moon water and manifestation.
Here I share with you essential things to do BOTH from Hindu tradition as well as more spiritual practices for this full moon to make the most of it.
1. Practices from Hindu tradition
The most primary thing to do during Sharad Purnima is keep a mixture of kheer (boiled rice and milk, along with saffron and sugar) on your terrace where the moon light is going to directly fall on it. You can keep a muslin cloth over it for a minimum of 2-3 hours. Technically it is kept overnight, taken out before sunrise and then consumed.
What are the benefits from making this kheer?
Well firstly, since this has now absorbed the Amrit of the moon, it is an elixir for health! You can consume this yourself and also distribute it how you feel. This is a powerful energy to cure and heal any health ailments. The second thing is to chant any Lakshmi stotram or mantra japa to connect to the energies of Lakshmi and invite her flow into your house. You can also listen to Sri Suktam on Youtube and mediate whilst you listen, abundance is all about being in receiving energy so be sure to practice that whilst you listen.
You can contact me for my options on 1-1 personal sadhana guidance on how to do stotrams, japa along with personalised self healing practices and mediations. Many Hindus engage in some sort of puja or ritual during this time, visiting Shakti temples and taking blessings. There are so many rituals within Hindu dharma, and I post the ones that I arrange in Kashi on my story!
3. Spiritual practices for abundance
The first thing to do is take a pen and paper and write down all the ways in which you are grateful for your abundance. Financial abundance, spiritual abundance, write it all down. Expressing gratitude shifts your energetic frequency out of lack and need, and allows you attract better things into your life. Since this full moon is all about EXPANSION, it is the energy of gratitude that helps you expand.
Be sure to charge your crystals in the light of the full moon (if you have them!) and if you don’t you can buy crystals related to abundance such as citrine, tigers eye, green aventurine and more. All crystals charged in this full moon will absorb it’s powerful energies and accumulate strong healing power.
To do this, simply cleanse them either with salt water (some crystals should not be cleansed with water) or sage / dhoop, lay them on a cloth in your balcony or terrace where they can collect the moon light. It’s important that they collect the moon light.STAND OUTSIDE!! Yes! This moon is literally showering Amrit, abundance, auspiciousness. You can stand or sit outside for a minimum of 21 minutes to absorb it’s rays. When you breathe in, imagine that the rays of the moon are filing up your vessel with healing and abundance. Connect with nature. You can also chant the special mantra “Aum Som Somaya Namah” to connect with the energies of the moon more deeply.
